The Project

Concern Worldwide, a nonprofit that provides third world children with much-needed school supplies, was the beneficiary for 2010’s Twestival, the largest grassroots social media fundraising initiative in the world. To make the most out of the global exposure, they needed a call to arms in the fight against illiteracy.

The Work

Prior to the event, the nonprofit approached MOPED to develop and execute a concept. Without the benefit of voiceovers or interviews, MOPED translated the organization’s mission, outlook, and resourcefulness into a simple and powerful mixed media piece. Using existing video clips, chalkboard graphics, and a contributed Moby song, MOPED made the need for universal education as self-evident as simple addition.

The Results

  • In a single day, Twestival raised $450,000 for education—surpassing its prior year’s goal by $200,000.
  • Over 175 cities participated, and viewers stirred by the video’s powerful call to action donated much-needed funds to the target organization.
  • After its initial debut, users shared the video on every social media platform, and it’s one of Conern Worldwide’s top-viewed videos on YouTube.
